To recognize the role veterinary technicians play in providing quality veterinary care for all types of animals, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) has designated Oct. 12-18 as National Veterinary Technician Week. This year’s theme is “Vet Techs: The Heart of Pet Wellness.”
“Vet Tech Week provides an opportunity to honor veterinary technicians for the outstanding job they do,” said Andrea Ball, NAVTA executive director. “It also provides NAVTA with an opportunity to educate companion-animal owners about the benefits of working with a veterinarian who employs credentialed veterinary technicians — which is equally important.”
This year’s weeklong event will include national media coverage, a poster campaign sponsored by Fort Dodge Animal Health and acknowledgement of the contributions of NAVTA members.
“Credentialed technicians receive more than a degree from an accredited veterinary program,” Ball said. “Most are required to take a certification examination, and many complete ongoing training in the classroom and on the job to keep up with medical advances and the wide range of animal care disciplines.”
