| One animal lover partnered with the Animal Coalition of Tampa and the ASPCA’s Mission: Orange program to spay and neuter an entire colony of cats in her neighborhood. |
When her neighbors moved away and left behind several outdoor cats, Evelyn Diehl stepped in to provide food and attention to the abandoned pets. “I started feeding two multi-colored cats, and now I go out every day to feed the group on the porch,” Diehl explains.
She provides daily attention to the animals and recently received help from the Animal Coalition of Tampa to have all of the cats spayed and neutered. The cats will be returned to the colony in stages, while the friendly, adoptable cats will be placed in foster homes until they can go to new homes.
Diehl’s devotion to the cats is just one example of the goal of the ASPCA’s Mission: Orange program, launched last February in Tampa. “Ms. Diehl’s kindness toward animals, coupled with the collaboration of so many groups to address Tampa’s feral cat issue, illustrates what’s at the core of ASPCA Mission: Orange,” says Ed Sayres, ASPCA president and CEO. “One person can make a difference, and we can go so much further when we collaborate.”
