A Pennsylvania man was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals after the Chester County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and Humane Society officers removed 27 cats and one mouse from his residence.
Robert Bealer of Phoenixville faces charges from when SPCA officials investigated his residence last Friday.
Humane Society officers first came to the residence last Friday to inspect the premises after receiving complaints of an odor coming from the home, according to SPCA spokesman Chuck McDevitt.
Monday, July 10, 21 cats were removed from the three-story home and the remaining six were taken two days later. All the cats were found to have various medical problems, according to McDevitt.
Bealer was charged with cruelty to animals because this is his second offense. In 2003, inspectors found 50 cats in his home. Half were removed and homes were found for the other half.
